Holding the record for the most goals scored in the FIFA Women’s World Cup and a six-time FIFA Women's World Player of the Year, she has earned the distinction of being known around the world simply as Marta.

Her path to becoming the best female soccer player of all time was far from easy. Growing up in Dois Riachos, one of Brazil’s poorest towns, her passion for soccer started when she was around seven or eight years old. At that time her love for the beautiful game was criticized because people thought it was not right for girls to play soccer.
